The growth of robot applications and sales is expected to continue for many years ahead. In 2013 global robot sales will increase by about 2% to 162,000 units, and the  International Federation of Robotics (IFR) predicts worldwide robot sales will increase by about 6% on average per year between 2014 and 2016, reaching more than 190,000 units new robots in the year

Understanding the impact of robots for UK industry is crucial. Not only do robots reduce operating costs, they also improving product quality and consistency, improve working conditions for employees, increase production output rates, give greater manufacturing flexibility and reduce material waste while increasing yield. Whilst automation seems to imply fewer jobs, between 2000 and 2008 the robotics industry created 8-10 million new jobs requiring high level technical skills. It is essential that colleges and educators understand the implications of industrial robots on the skills requirements for industry.

The Masterclass will be based at ABB’s training centre and will make use of their modern and fully equipped training facilities. At the event, you will meet members of the ABB technical and training teams, experts in the development, application and maintenance of robotic and automation systems, who will present on present production systems and future developments that can be expected in industrial robots. There will be tours of the training facilities and hands-on activities including an opportunity to programme robots using Robot Studio.
