UAE's Ajman University Achieves Innovation Certification Trade Mark Recognition

  October 2021

Ajman University Innovation Centre (AUIC) achieved the Certified Innovation Centre benchmark awarded by the UK’s Institute of Innovation and Knowledge Exchange (IKE Institute).

The Certified Innovation Centre is a UK Government's IPO Certification Scheme registered under Class 41 conducted by the IKE Institute covers Innovation Training; Innovation Development; and Innovation Assessment within the context of advancing innovation education, learning and development. This Innovation Certification Trade Mark Scheme draws on the ISO 56000 series of international innovation guidance standards and tests an organisation’s innovation maturity and readiness in four categories:

  1. Innovative Capability
  2. Empowered Innovation Environment Capability
  3. Collaborative Networking and Ecosystem Capability
  4. Market Trends and Customer Analysis Capability

Achieving the IKE Institute Certified Trade Mark Innovation Centre accreditation means that an organisation can demonstrate a constructive alignment between its purpose, and its innovation drive and activities; take an active role in supporting economic development through innovation, particularly, in the diffusion of technologies and applications; and, celebrate its distinctive offerings in innovation thereby, delivering value to its customers, users, partners and stakeholders.

Established in 1988, Ajman University in United Arab Emirates was as the first private university in the Gulf region with highly ranked colleges in such disciplines as engineering and information and digital technologies.

AUIC has been active since 2016 and drew its inspiration for innovation development from the Korean Innovation Centres model to galvanise an ecosystem of start-ups, funders and investors and technology leaders together with innovation mentors, academics and governmental agencies.

AUIC provides practical support to entrepreneurs to help them experiment, incubate and accelerate their ideas and provide access to a network of international innovation partners and routes to market.

Dr Chuloh Jung, AUIC Director said:

“Ajman University’s Innovation Centre was established as part of our social responsibility commitment to encourage small to medium enterprises and governmental agencies to pursue innovation vigorously to deliver viable benefits to their customers and users as well as prepare them for disruption and emerging challenges. Achieving the IKE Institute Innovation Certification Trade Mark Scheme means that we have truly and independently tested the AUIC’s innovation capabilities that can meet international standards of innovation best practice.

“The Validation Panel, which combined c-suite business executives and accomplished professors, has provided us with comprehensive feedback to guide our next stage of development, with confidence. We are very pleased to become the first recipient of the Certified Trade Mark Innovation Centre Scheme in the Gulf region. We look forward to our continued collaboration with the IKE Institute.”

Professor Sa’ad Medhat, IKE Institute’s CEO and a member of the ISO Technical Committee for setting the international innovation standards, said:

“Ajman University’s Innovation Centre has clearly demonstrated professionalism, imagination and proactive leadership in driving innovation and inspiring many individuals and start-ups to pursue the Art Of The Possible.

“The provision of dedicated facilities and digital platforms coupled with training and access to a growing network of international innovators offer a unique competitive positioning for AUIC to scale up its rapid discovery activities and further develop the growing intellectual capital in the UAE, the Gulf region and beyond. As a mark of distinction, all AUIC’s successful participants will be recognised by the IKE Institute’s Innovation Certification Trade Mark Scheme, thus, offering them clear differentiation and recognition.”
