Intelligent College Network Meeting. 8th February 2013

With the New Year, comes new challenges and the Intelligent College Network is readying itself for all that the year can bring. Membership is going from strength to strength and next month we plan to elect our first chair.

The last meeting, hosted by Uxbridge College in November was a great success. We heard about upcoming changes to the funding rules and discussed ideas of how softer skills could be embedded into the curriculum. The network will host quarterly meetings at the sites of the member colleges in a round-robin style.

February sees the turn of The Sheffield College to host the network members. We have a packed agenda, including discussions on work experience models and enterprise, the election of the first chair of the network and a sustainability tour of the College. We also have the Director of Training from the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre popping by to provide an insight into this cutting edge organisation.

Background:

The NEF has initiated the network of ‘Intelligent Colleges’ for the purpose of supporting economic growth by increasing the influence and STEM capability of forward-thinking colleges. The network was initiated following a piece of research produced by NEF that outlines activities and ideals needed to help prepare FE Colleges for a transition from the “here-and-now” to become outwardly-focused organisations that drive economic growth and prosperity. The report can be found on our website.
