Don’t forget that the call for applications to apply for grants under the Industrial Fellowship Scheme is still open! Lecturers can apply for £1500 each to enable them to take up a short placement within industry or a local university. This is a fabulous opportunity for creating new partnerships and strengthening provision.
The IFS grant can be used to support professional updating for the individual lecturer, create new teaching and learning materials, or support changes in planned curriculum at the college. The placements can be flexible: a single or host or multiple, in one block of time or one day a week for several weeks.
The IFS grant can also be employed to support lecturers and colleges taking up placements through initiatives such as the National Skills Academy for Nuclear (NSAN) secondment scheme or that might be part of the CPD requirements for membership of other organisations, such as the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI). For more information on the NSAN scheme for FE colleges, contact Julie Maykels, j.maykels@nuclear.nsacademy.co.uk and for more information on the IMI Automotive Trainer and Assessor Professional Recognition Standards visit www.theimi.org.uk/membership/automotive-trainer-and-assessor-professional-recognition-standards-introduction.
"I found the IFS experience to be highly rewarding and an eye-opener to me! I learned a lot about what it is like to work in an industrial laboratory, and can now use my experiences to inform learners and peers about this type of work. Thank you very much to NEF for the funding and support, and to ALS Eclipse Lab for the placement opportunity."
