This workshop supported by the NEF has been developed to assist colleagues in FE colleges who are involved in developing or have recently started to teach on a Foundation Degree. It aims to provide an opportunity to discuss the process of developing appropriate teaching schemes and assessments from the details given in module reference sheets or module descriptors.

Learning outcomes for workshop

At the end of the workshop the delegate will be able to

1. Work from module reference sheet/module description for a foundation degree module and to produce teaching and assessment schemes.

  • In order to achieve this, discussions will be held on
  • Identify and use appropriate level descriptors
  • Identify appropriate teaching and learning methods

2. To identify and describe assessment methods in relation to module outcomes

In order to achieve this they will be able to

  • Describe different modes of assessment
  • Construct marking schemes appropriate to the assessment
  • Discuss ways of providing clear and concise feedback to students

Delegates are asked to bring copies of their own module reference sheets or specifications from which to work during the day.

Welcome and introductions: 10.15 - 11.45

Introduction to developing programmes and teaching schemes: 11.45 - 12.30

Developing teaching schemes – a chance for delegates to work on their own modules: 12.30 - 13.00

Lunch: 13.30 - 15.00

Developing Assessment tasks and criteria: 15.00 - 15.30

Afternoon tea: 15.30 - 16.00

Developing teaching schemes – a chance for delegates to plan assessments for their own modules: 16.00 - 16.30
